THE PROCESS

Assessment

Our total body approach aims to treat the entire system as well as the specific problem, not just the symptoms. We are interested in finding long-term solutions and injury prevention for the future. Our chartered physiotherapists are specialists in injury management and prevention for a wide range of patients ranging across all ages, conditions, levels of pain and backgrounds. Our services include diagnosis, exercise prescription, various treatment techniques and ongoing support in your recovery.

Education

Pain as well as other symptoms of injury can be daunting, and a key step towards recovery is to take back control. This begins with knowledge. At EVOLVE we work to ensure you understand the “why” of your injury and the reasoning behind the symptoms you’re experiencing so that you begin your recovery, safe in the knowledge of what you’re dealing with. We also want you to know the rationale behind treatments and exercises you’re given to help you stay motivated in your rehab plan. Our approach helps you to develop the skills to manage your injury in the short term and prevention in the long term. This is all so you don’t have to keep coming back. Your treatment programme will not only target your symptoms but, while treating your symptoms will also help you to achieve new goals, whether that be in terms of exercise, overall health targets or athletic performance goals.

Treatment

Through evidence based treatment techniques and training, we reduce pain, improve movement and quality of living. We believe in a balance between hands-on treatments, manual therapy, rehabilitation programs and education. At EVOLVE Physiotherapy we help you implement your exercises and rehab into your routine and to stay consistent. We understand the challenges you’ll face but we aspire to get the most out of our clients and not stop at reduced pain, but aim to make meaningful change in your life.

Rehab

We send you content for everything you’ve been asked to do at home, so it’s like having your physio right there beside you. Our dedicated app provides your exercises, instructional videos and educational content to answer FAQs. If you prefer a printed copy of your program, this can be given at the end of your session. Rehab is all about consistency and sticking to the prescription, just like any other form of medicine. That is why when you log in and use the app, your physio will be able to view your performance, compliance and improvements as you progress.
As well as this, we are always available for further contact between sessions via phone and email. To ensure you stay on track your physiotherapist will contact you between appointments to guide you, answer questions and help you along the way. All of this is to ensure you get back to feeling your best as well as prevent injury down the line.

The Next Step

Unlike any other physiotherapy clinic, our input doesn’t end after you are free of pain. We want you to continually see improvements and get the most out of whatever it is you love to do. Whether it’s playing sport, your hobbies, work or just life. We want you feeling stronger, more mobile, more confident and overall safer from injury in whatever challenges you choose to take on. All so you don’t have to see your physiotherapist every week! Instead of battling aches, pains and anxiety around old injuries you could book in for 1 to 1 supervised rehab sessions with one of our physiotherapists from which we will map out a program to guide you along. This can have massive benefits for your overall health and well-being as well as reducing your risk of injury. If you have any apprehension or nerves we have absolutely brilliant dual qualified physiotherapists and coaches to guide you every step of the way.

Treatments

SOFT TISSUE MANIPULATION

Soft tissue manipulation includes myofascial release, sports and deep tissue massage and trigger point therapy. Soft tissue manipulation is used for a variety of reasons ranging from pain reduction, tissue relaxation, to reduce perceived stiffness and increase quality of movement. Myofascial release is used when a patient has myofascial trigger points or ‘muscle knots’ which are tight bands of muscle fibres that are tender to touch that can lead to pain, referred discomfort or suboptimal movement. These myofascial trigger points occur for a range of reasons including muscular weakness, relative overuse, stress and injury. These trigger points can be easy to feel for Physiotherapists. Myofascial release helps to reduce pain and dysfunction so then we can help to strengthen or offload the area of the trigger points or pain.

SPORTS MASSAGE/
DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE

Massage can help reduce aches, pains and injuries that are associated with sustained postures and recreational activities like sports and running. Depending on techniques used, it can help to manipulate the superficial and deeper layers of muscle to enhance performance, aid in the healing process and reduce pain. Massage can also help more holistically by reducing stress through the release of endorphins.

EXERCISE PRESCRIPTION

The foundation of our Physiotherapy treatment is exercise prescription. Exercise prescription has been shown in studies to be effective in the prevention of injury and illness. The exercise prescription will be tailored to your specific goals, lifestyle and level of activity. These objectives will be set in collaboration with your Physiotherapist so that a plan can be developed to assist you in meeting your goals. Throughout your treatment, you will be given an individualised exercise program that is tailored to your ability, pain levels, routine and goals for that time. These exercises will be constantly assessed, adapted, and progressed to continually meet your needs.

DRY NEEDLING

Dry needling can be used to treat a variety of musculoskeletal issues. Conditions that can be treated include, but are not limited to, neck, back, and shoulder pain, arm pain (tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, golfer’s elbow), headache (including migraines and tension-type headaches), jaw pain, buttock pain, and leg pain (sciatica, muscular strains/tightness/spasms). Dry needling targets myofascial trigger points, which are linked to pain and pain perception. They frequently occur as a result of neuromuscular dysfunction or weakness, as well as in areas of musculoskeletal stress or tightness. Dry needling can be an important modality in helping to break the pain cycle in the first place, allowing us to reduce your pain and keep it from happening again.

REDUCE SYMPTOMS

At EVOLVE we are focused on getting to the bottom of your pain, muscle tension or sporting injuries and have you feeling better and more confident from your first session. We provide treatments for neck pain, back pain, knee pain, headaches, sports injuries, post-surgery rehabilitation, nerve pain and more. Our goal is to help not just in the short term treating symptoms, but in the long term to prevent injury having a positive impact on your life.

EDUCATION

Many of our patients that come to us in pain, with or without a diagnosis are unaware of how the activities, lifestyle, the nervous system and pain system of the body affect our recovery. Tissue injury is just one of factors that determine how much pain we feel and how long it lasts, according to pain science. Poor sleep patterns, high levels of stress, and diet can all sensitise our pain system. Other factors that can influence our pain system include our beliefs and perceptions (sometimes misperceptions). They can cause fear and anxiety about our painful conditions, and they can be significant obstacles on our journey to a full recovery. Instead, in EVOLVE we show you the way forward and offer advice and tips to treat your symptoms as well as regain confidence as you progress through your treatment journey.

ERGONOMIC EXPERTISE AND ADVICE

Ergonomics is the study of the relationship between a worker and his or her working environment, with a focus on work areas or tasks in order to improve job productivity and performance. The goal of ergonomics is to maximise productivity while minimising physiological or health costs to the worker.
